Suits Episode 1 - Part 1

Suits Episode 1x1 "Pilot"- Part 1

Violation of 8.4(c) and 8.3
At the beginning of the episode, Harvard Specter tells Gerald Tate, an officer of his client, that the firm has already been paid in full. He presents a slip of paper to Mr. Tate for him to read, but he doesn't look at it. The slip of paper, which has been represented as a wire transfer, is actually an inter-office memo about fire drills. This is probably a violation of Model Rules of Professional Conduct ("MR") 8.4(c), which states that it is professional misconduct to "engage in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation." Furthermore, because Jessica, the managing partner, was there to witness his dishonesty towards his client, she now has "actual knowledge" of the violation and she herself will be in violation of 8.3 if she doesn't report Harvey. In fact, Harvey notes this later in the episode when he explains that Jessica had a duty to report him to the bar as soon as she knew he lied to Mr. Tate.

"Move over, I'm emailing the firm that I just found our next associate."

Violation of 5.5
When Harvey knowingly hires Mike Ross to work as an associate at his law firm, Pearson Hardman, even though Mike has not gone to law school, Harvey is violating MR 5.5, which states that "(a) A lawyer shall not practice law in a jurisdiction in violation of the regulation of the legal profession in that jurisdiction, or assist another in doing so." Here, Harvey has assisted Mike Ross in practicing law without a license, clearly in violation of this rule.
